You're listening to a Community Story from Be My Eyes. Hello, I'm Anthony from Malta. I am 66. When I was eight and a half, I had an accident in which I had suffered amputation of my left hand, and another two fingers from my right hand. It was very hard afterwards to continue even with my education, because as I had a double disability, I couldn't use the Braille writing machines with only one hand. Besides, there were other disadvantages. But with the introduction of computers and new electronics, I could continue with my normal life. I worked for 40 years in a big hotel, where I met many people from different nations. I like sports quite a lot. I like to play chess, and in fact I participated in many international chess tournaments. In fact, this is the chess board that I use to play my games on. The computer was of great help, and it is a very good tool, because I can communicate with other people, either locally or abroad. I also participated in other tournaments abroad for the blind, like for example football matches and athletics. I used to do athletics with one of the local clubs as well. I did a skydive for charity, from a height of 12 or 14 thousand feet high. I also learnt the iPhone. The iPhone gave me more opportunities, because I can use Be My Eyes. I would like to thank Be My Eyes for giving me this opportunity to share with others my experience. It might be some encouragement to them as well. Since I've been using Be My Eyes, I found it very useful, because each time I have a problem on my computer I can use the Specialized Help. Through that, I can make contact with Microsoft and they can support me and help me to sort any problem I meet on my computer. Besides that, Be My Eyes can also help me by calling the volunteers, and they can explain to me where certain things are, and they also read out some text or documents.
